LEO as a legal AI assistant at a law firm
A law firm uses LEO, Prudai's legal AI colleague, for case file analysis, case law research and legal drafting. LEO searches legislation, case law and literature and gives the exact location for every passage. In Word, every change arrives as a suggestion that the lawyer accepts or rejects line by line. LEO takes over the first round of searching and organising; the lawyer checks and decides.
The Challenge
Lawyers work with a large and constantly changing body of legislation, case law and literature, and with case files of hundreds of documents. Finding the right case law and organising a file is necessary work, but it takes time that does not go into advice and strategy.
At the same time, care is not negotiable. An AI tool is only usable for the firm if it is clear where every answer comes from, so the lawyer can check it, and if confidential files stay confidential.
Our Solution
The firm works with LEO. For a new case file, LEO helps get from hundreds of documents to a timeline, tables and the points that matter. For research, LEO searches legislation, case law and literature, with the exact location for every passage. LEO works with more than a hundred sources and also reads 58 curated professional corpora: guidelines, doctrine and practice rules per area of law.
In the chat, a mechanical check reviews every answer for ECLI numbers. If an answer cites a judgment that did not come from a source, a tool or a user's document in that conversation, LEO tries to retrieve it. If that fails, a visible 'unverified' notice appears with the answer. The check tells whether a judgment was retrieved, not whether it supports the point: the lawyer reads the judgment.
For recurring work there are workflows. In most workflows LEO first presents a plan and waits for the lawyer's approval before the specialists start; the lawyer can approve, adjust or stop. When drafting in Word, every change arrives as a suggestion that the lawyer accepts or rejects line by line. LEO works with Word, SharePoint and ORDO.

Results & Impact
LEO takes over the first round of searching and organising: an overview of the file, relevant case law with its location, a first draft of a document. The lawyer checks, assesses and decides; legal judgement and client contact stay with the lawyer.
Because every passage comes with its location, and an ECLI that was not retrieved is visibly marked as unverified, the firm can check the output before it goes to a client.
Customer data is stored on Prudai's own servers in EU data centres. The AI providers contractually do not use prompts or outputs to train models. Prudai is certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and NEN 7510-1:2024.
